Ferguson, John James ‘Jack’ -82, passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital September 14, 2024 after a short but hard fought battle with cancer. Born September 11, 1942 in Bay View, Pictou County to the late James and Olive (MacKay) Ferguson, he spent his life on the family farm. Family, community and agriculture were very important to Jack. He spent many hours volunteering on boards and organizations. He was an active member of the Pictou North Colchester Exhibition for over 60 years. He was president of the Pictou County Agricultural Society, a past member of the Board for the Dairy Farmers of Nova Scotia, a member of the Hector Arena Commission, a past director of the Pictou County Farmers Mutual Insurance and an active committee member and longtime president of the Seaview Cemetery. He loved fiddle music, step dancing, and Old Time Dances. Jack was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen (MacFarlane) and brother, David in infancy. He is survived by his brothers, Tom (Lynn), Pictou; William (Jean), Bay View; Harold, Bay View; his sister, Elizabeth, Riverton; sister-in-law, Bernice, Ontario; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and a great-great nephew. The family wish to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit and the VON for the kindness and support given to Jack. Visitation will be held at the family farmhouse 381 Bayview Road, Pictou from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM Tuesday September 17th. Funeral will take place Wednesday September 18th at 11 AM from St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Pictou with Pat Wilson officiating.
