MacDOUGALL, Helen M.
Pictou
Helen Marie (Graham) MacDougall, 92, passed away August 11, 2024, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow surrounded by her family, after a brief illness. Born in Four Mile Brook in 1932, she was the daughter of the late Viola Graham. Helen attended Rogers Hill School and later Pictou Academy, where she obtained her commercial certificate. She then went on to serve as a secretary in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF), stationed in Fort William, ON and Mont Apica, QC. After returning home, Helen worked at Hamilton’s Biscuit Factory in Pictou. She stayed at home with Ann Marie and Jean while they were young and then worked at the Children’s Training Center for many years until its closing in the early 1990s. Helen was a long-time active member of First Presbyterian Church in Pictou; she taught Explorers, was in the Women’s Club, and served as Envelope Secretary. For many years, she could be found behind the table serving food at coffee parties and church lunches. Helen was also an active member of the Pictou Lionettes and enjoyed lending a hand to various volunteer causes in Pictou. In her later years, Helen looked forward to spending time with her family, especially if it involved getting out for a good meal or a concert. After moving into the Shiretown Nursing Home, she loved to partake in social activities (especially if it involved winning chocolate bars at bingo!) or spending time knitting, reading books, and playing on her tablet. Helen is survived by her daughters, Ann Marie (David) Munro, Pictou; and Jean (Wayne) Keizer, Cascumpec, PE; grandchildren, Melissa (Mike) Munro-Bernard, Charlottetown, PE; Stacey Munro, Pictou; Nathan Keizer (Samantha Landry), Ryan Keizer (Katelyn Babineau), both of Fredericton, NB; and sister, Phyllis Fredin, London, ON. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter, in 2007 after 51 years of marriage; and brothers, Raymond and Lloyd Graham. Her remains are resting at McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, NS with visitation on Wednesday, August 14 from 4-7 pm. Funeral Service will be held at 2pm, on Thursday, August 15, at First Presbyterian Church, Pictou. Internment in Seaview Cemetery to follow. No flowers by request. If you wish, donations in memory of Helen may be made to First Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
