Cecil, age 86, passed peacefully in his sleep at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow on November 25, 2023. He was the eldest son of the late James ‘Jim’ Shaw and Kathleen Peters. Cecil has left behind his loving wife of 66 years, Irene, along with daughters, Linda (Rob Shank), Cheryl (Jim Walsh) and son, Allan. He is also survived by sister, Mildred (MacDonald). He was predeceased by his brother, Donnie; sisters, Dora (Greene) and Ruth Shaw. Cecil was a clever and ingenious man. He started as a millwright and steel worker at the Pictou Shipyard. Loving the sea, Cecil was a commercial fisherman for many years. His prized boat Caribou Queen was a large fishing boat for its time at the Caribou Wharf. Cecil also worked at Northumberland Ferries in the 1970’s and rose to 4th engineer. Still working in the maritime professions, Cecil became an instructor at the Fisheries School in Pictou teaching marine navigation. He travelled across the province and taught in the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Just before retiring, Cecil bought lobsters in Caribou not willing to sit around. He was a top notch welder and had a lathe and milling machine in his garage. Helping out friends fixing their machinery, Cecil took great pride in his results. He was a man of many talents. He will be missed. Cremation has taken place. A public graveside service will be held 2PM Friday, May 24th in Seaview Cemetery.
