Obituary of Shirley MacKenzie

Shirley MacKenzie Braeshore It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Shirley MacKenzie of Braeshore, peacefully at home on December 29, 2022. She was predeceased by her parents Ella and George MacKenzie of Pictou, Nova Scotia; sisters, Norma Anderson and Alyce Kunetsky, and just recently, her close sister, Ina MacKenzie. Loving aunt of Melodie, Jean, Bradley, Alan, Daphne and Diane. She will be fondly remembered by numerous friends and extended family members. Originally from Pictou, Shirley trained as a nurse and then travelled the world with her sister Ina, for both work and pleasure before returning home to Pictou. Leisure time would find Shirley spending hours either at the scrabble board with friends and family or working her magic in the garden. She loved life in Pictou; playing golf, contributing to the Garden Club, and participating in the church. She had a keen interest in everyone around her, and loved to hear others talk about their families and lives. In respect for her wishes, there will not be a public visitation. A private family service has been held with Rev. Mary Beth Moriarty officiating. Donations in Shirley’s memory can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the United Church of Pictou as per Shirley’s request. The family wish to acknowledge and thank the Newfoundland ladies and local caregivers for their care and devotion to Shirley over the past several years.
