MURRAY, Hugh W.
Scotsburn Road
It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of Hugh William Murray, at age 79. Hugh died peacefully on March 25th, 2022, at his son’s home. He was surrounded by all of the comfort and care his family could give. The world became a better place when Hugh was born to his parents, the late Milledge and Jean (MacKay) Murray, at the family home in Hodson, River John, on August 18th, 1942. Hugh was raised on the family farm with his five sisters and five brothers. Hugh was a carpenter. There was nothing he could not build or fix. He worked for many friends and family, in addition to working at the Sobeys Carpentry Shop for approximately 30 years. As a man of great kindness and un-wavering faith, Hugh served on the Board of Managers and as Trustee at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, along with serving as an Elder for 43 years. Hugh also served as a Youth Group Leader and Scout Leader. His authentic and gentle spirit made a profound impact on the lives of all that knew him. He is survived by his wife, Leona (MacKenzie) of 51 years; son, Evan (Lynn); daughter, Terri-Lee (Mike) Reid; along with his beloved grandchildren, Brody, Jake, Isaac, and Avery. Hugh cherished his role as Grampy for which he always had time, no matter what he was “busy” with. He is also survived by siblings, Raymond (Margaret), Gerald (Agnes), Elbert, Beth Langille, Joyce Brown, Glenn, Malcolm (Donna), Ethel Slaunwhite; brother-in-law, Allan Slaunwhite; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Anne and Ruth; as well as brothers-in-law, Robert ‘Bob’ Hume, Andy Henderson, Billie Langille, and Bane Brown. Cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation. The funeral will be Saturday April 2nd, 2022, at 2 PM, in Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating.
