MacKAY, Sylvia Scotsburn MacKAY, Sylvia – 88, of Scotsburn, passed away peacefully with her daughter and granddaughter by her side on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Bissett Court, Cole Harbour. Sylvia was born on March 21, 1933 in Springhill, the only child of the late Frank and Rachel (Canning) Haley. Sylvia married her late husband Donald MacKay in the fall of 1958 and moved to her new home on the farm in Heathbell. There she spent many years cooking and baking for her family and anyone else who may have been working on the farm that day. In addition to her love of baking, Sylvia enjoyed "Old Time" Dances and card parties. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge for many years. In addition to her parents and husband, Sylvia was predeceased by her brothers–in-law, Dr J. Allan MacKay, and Allister MacKay. Sylvia is survived by her two children, Gordon MacKay, Scotsburn and Marion Sutherland, Halifax; granddaughter, Elizabeth Sutherland, Halifax; as well as her nieces and nephews. In addition to her family, she is survived by special friends, Barb and Ray Victor, Lawrencetown; their daughter, Michelle (Matt) Jenkins and her daughter, Colbie. A special thanks to the staff at Bissett Court for their loving care over the past 5 years. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Monday in the McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM on Tuesday from Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson officiating. Private Committal will follow in the Bethel Cemetery.
