Obituary of Vincent Leonard Heighton

Vincent Leonard Heighton Halifax / Pictou It is with deep sadness we announce the death of Vincent ‘Vince’ Leonard Heighton on July 24, 2021 at the age of 85. Born in Pictou on May 19, 1936, he was the youngest child of Charles and Jane (Redpath) Heighton. Vincent was predeceased by his beloved wife, Florence; and his brothers, Almour, Robert, Vernon, Lloyd, Gerald, Anderson, Bruce and Gordon; and sisters, Irene, Nita, Hazel, Joyce and Janet. Surviving him are his loving family, sons, Paul (Mary Anne), Brian (grandson Sam); daughter, Jennifer (Chris Scott); sisters-in-law, Grace (Anderson), Mary (Gordon) and Eleanor (Bruce); as well, many special nieces and nephews. Vincent began his long career in Hospital Pharmacy in 1959 at Dalhousie University’s College of Pharmacy, and would return in later years as a lecturer at the College. During his career he took on leadership roles in both Provincial and National Hospital Pharmacy associations as well as guiding the Hospital Pharmacy residency programs to high standards of practice. Throughout these years Vincent held his staff and many students in high regard. Vincent enjoyed music throughout his life and sang in many choirs, with Birch Cove Baptist Church Choir being his most enjoyable. His passion of helping others remained strong as he was a volunteer at Hope Cottage, the CNIB, ESL program and helping seniors in need. Vincent’s other passions he was known for included travelling the world, darts, bird watching, keeping active and fit and of course, gardening. The family would like to add special thanks to Dr. MacFarlane, Medical Oncology, Dr. Ddamba, Radiation Oncology, Claire Morton, Palliative Care, Cynthia Flack, Continuing Care, the VON and all of the staff at the Hospice Halifax, that with their kindness and compassion, took great care of Vincent. As well, the McLaren Funeral Home in Pictou that helped us with all of the final arrangements and the Reverend John Wilton, who officiated the service. A small private family funeral was held at Seaview Cemetery on Friday, July 30.
