Obituary of Hugh Rankin Beaton
BEATON, Hugh Rankin –71, of Pictou, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 6, 2018 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Inverness, on December 14, 1946, Hugh was a son of the late Angus and Flora Beaton of Mabou. Hugh retired from Nova Scotia Power, Trenton Generating Station, where he was employed as a Power Engineer for 22 years. Prior to his employment at Nova Scotia Power, he was employed as a Power Engineer at Crossley Carpet, Truro and Gulf Oil Refinery in Point Tupper. Hugh is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Marguerite (Campbell); and his four children, Greg, Saint John, New Brunswick; Brian (Tania), Loch Broom; Janice, New Glasgow; and Eileen (Thomas), Stratford, PEI; as well as his two beautiful grandchildren, Jack and Ruby. He is also survived by brothers and sisters, Donald, Sydney; John R., Pugwash; Lawrence (Linda), Mabou; Damien (Maureen), Mabou; Fabian (Rosemary), Hamilton, Ontario; Harold, Fall River; Marian (Roddie MacLennan), Bedford; Willanna (Bill MacDonald), Mabou; plus his many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Clarence; and sister, Angela. Hugh was a loving husband and father and a devout family man. He loved spending time with his four children, and kept a keen interest in their lives. Hugh especially loved spending time with his two grandchildren, who he loved with all his heart. He loved Celtic music, especially fiddle tunes and the bagpipes. He also enjoyed telling his kids stories of growing up at the “end of a country road” and stood strong in his roots. Thank you to the nurses, paramedics and physicians at the Emergency Department of the Aberdeen Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. Also, a very special thank you to the nurses at the Dialysis Unit in Pictou, for their kind and wonderful care given to Hugh. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 PM Sunday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral Mass will take place 11 AM Monday from Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will follow in the Parish Cemetery. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
