HEIGHTON, Eleanor J. Pictou It is with great sadness the family of Eleanor Jean Heighton announce her peaceful passing at Shiretown Nursing Home in Pictou on November 4th, 2024, at the golden age of 100. Born on Burnbrae Farm to the late Clifford and Olive MacLellan on April 10th, 1924, in Durham, Nova Scotia. Eleanor was the last surviving member of the MacLellan family. She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years Bruce Heighton. Eleanor was a kind and gentle person with a generous heart, dedicating her life to serving others. She found joy in the simple things in life, such as family gatherings, weekends in the city, and celebrating the successes of her family. Eleanor was employed by the Department of Public Health in Pictou for 42 years. She was a dedicated member of St. James Anglican Church in Pictou. She served as a choir member, a parish council member, and a regional council member. She was a member of the Canadian Bible Society and the Monarchist League in Pictou. Eleanor was especially supportive of the people in her community, focusing on those in need. She was a recipient of the Provincial Volunteer of the Year Award for exceptional volunteer service for the town of Pictou. She also received the Nova Scotia Provincial Volunteer award of the Year in 2008. Eleanor was predeceased by her parents, Clifford and Olive MacLellan; brothers, John, Lloyd (Genevieve); sisters, Betty, Grace (Don); sisters-in-law, Irene, Nita, Hazel, Joyce, and Janet; and brothers-in-law, Almour, Robert, Vernon, Lloyd, Gerald, Anderson, Vincent, and Gordon. Eleanor is survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Eleanor was a resident at the Shiretown Nursing Home. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff for their exceptional care, commitment, and love. Cremation has taken place with a service being held at St. James Anglican Church on Friday November 8th at 11:00 AM with Reverend Dr. Joanne Neal officiating. Reception to follow in the church hall. Arrangements are entrusted to McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the St. James Anglican Church, Pictou, or the Pictou Food Bank.
