SCOTHORN, Marlene H.
Lyons Brook / Hardwood Lands
It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Marlene Hectorine Scothorn, age 69, of Lyons Brook and Hardwood Lands. Marlene passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024. Born in Neils Harbour, NS, she was a daughter of the late Munro and Muriel (Hardy) MacDonald. Marlene was a loving wife to Donald Scothorn (d. 1997), mother, aunt and grandmother. Marlene and Donald owned and operated Hector Holsteins in Lyons Brook from 1983 to 1997. As was always the case, Marlene’s incredible work ethic proved to be invaluable to this endeavour. A master baker, cakes were her specialty. The question of which cake was the favourite was discussed by her family the day before her death. Marlene was also known amongst farmhands, family and friends as an excellent cook always providing meals like baked beans, ham and fresh bread to the numerous people frequenting their dairy farm. Marlene was an avid curler and a long-time member of the New Caledonia Curling Club in Pictou. She coached junior curling and, with her close friend Arlene, coached girls volleyball. She was also a huge supporter of 4H and volunteered as a project leader. She will be remembered by friends and family for her quick wit and mischievous nature. Marlene is survived by her children, Jeff (Ruth), Hardwood Lands; Daniel (Heather), Hortonville; Sandy, Pictou; Brad, Lyons Brook; grandchildren, Chelsea, Leah, Benjamin; Logan, Alexa, Zahra; Ethan, Theron, Kasey; Shayden, Snow, Hudson. She is also survived by siblings, Davina (Jim), Claudette (Michael), Edie, Sandra and David (Patti). Along with her parents, Marlene was predeceased by her husband, Donnie and brother, Donald. The family would like to thank the VON, the Community Palliative Care Team of Colchester East Hants, and the wonderful volunteers and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at the Colchester East Hants Health Centre. Arrangements have been entrusted to McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Oct 12, 2024 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Royal Canadian Legion, 130 Veterans Dr., Pictou. Donations in memory of Marlene may be made to the Reginald and Donald Scothorn Memorial Fund (℅ 4H Nova Scotia 902-843-3990) or a charity of your choice.
