LANDRY, Ola A.
New Glasgow/Pictou
LANDRY, Ola Arthur - It is with mixed feelings of sadness of his passing, combined with great joy in knowing where his final journey has taken him, that the family of Ola Landry, loving husband of Eva (Chiasson) Landry, announce his passing at 92 years of age on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Glen Haven Manor, senior’s home in New Glasgow, NS. Born June 21, 1932 in Dupuis Corner, New Brunswick he was the son of the late Romuald and Dora (Donelle) Landry. Ola moved from Dupuis Corner to Pictou with his parents at the young age of roughly 10 years, where he was raised and remained his entire life. In his late teens Ola met Eva, the love of his life, while working at his father’s lobster factory in Les-Iles-de-la-Madeleine, where they were married July 16, 1955, returning to Pictou to settle and raise their family of seven children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ola loved fishing and hunting and spending time with family, whether at the Pictou Landry hunting camp in the early years, or the fishing / hunting trips to northern Ontario and Alberta with his sons, or the many family events and beach activities in the local surrounding Pictou area - the Caribou Island fishing of bar clams (palourdes) and cooking / shucking / canning of bar clams at the family home is one of the many memorable family times. Ola enjoyed gardening as a pastime and welcoming friendly competition, like who can grow the biggest tomato. Ola was always there to provide advice and help to family, especially to his three daughters and family living nearby, always having a positive ‘glass half full perspective’ with comments like, “Whatever you say” and “Keep looking up”. Ola was a man of great faith – he knew his final journey would be taking him home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In his last months he often said, “I may fall down six feet, but I’ll be going way up”. This same faith is shared by many within his family, which gave him great comfort and strength knowing everyone will be reunited some day in the future. Ola in his early years worked at the local fish factories, he owned / operated a plumbing company started with his brothers – ARO Plumbing, worked at the local Pictou shipyards, and worked as a pipefitter at the local pulp mill for some 25 years before he retired, and receiving an award while as Safety Officer for the safest pulp mill in Canada. In addition to his wife of 69 years, Ola is survived by his children, Gerald Landry (Loretta), Louis Landry (Claudette), Daniel Landry (Glenda), Linda MacLeod (Jim), Susan Aikens (Gerald), Peter Landry (Mary), Diane Hendrican (Dan); 19 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters, Alcide Landry, Jeanne Landry, Ronald Landry, Rhoda Landry and their families, and several other extended family members. Besides his parents, Ola was predeceased by his brother, Edwin Landry, and his sister Murielle LaPierre. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Glen Haven Manor. Your kindness and care of Ola will not be forgotten. There will be a funeral service at Christian Fellowship Church, 489 Abercrombie Rd, New Glasgow, NS, Thursday September 19, 2024, at 2pm to celebrate Ola’s life and final journey home to be with the Lord.
