MacDONALD, Donald Bernard “Ducky”
July 20, 1938 - July 25, 2024
Ducky died in Aberdeen Hospital on July 25, 2024. Born in Pictou, he was the son of the late Minnie (Cormier) and Percival MacDonald. At the age of fourteen he left Pictou for Ontario and eventually settled in Stoney Creek. While there, he met his future wife, a Pictou County girl, Marlene Colquhoun of Salt Springs, NS. They married in 1961 and had one child, Gary. Ducky was proud of his long career in the construction industry. He was a member of Laborers’ International Union of North America. He received the rare distinction of being a fifty year member of this trade union; being among the longest members in its history. Motor sport was a passion for him and as a young man raced competitively himself. He followed NASCAR his entire life. After the loss of his beloved wife Marlene, Ducky made his way back “home” to Nova Scotia, where he lived a quiet life on Murray Road, Pictou. Left to mourn Ducky are his granddaughter, Julie MacDonald (Omemee, ON); and her children, Penelope and Tyler Baird. He will be missed by many; cousin, Dwight MacDonald (Pictou, NS); sister, Mary (San Diego); daughter-in-law, Cara Wilson (Burlington, ON); friends and family in Ontario; and numerous nieces and nephews in Pictou. He was predeceased by his wife Marlene; son, Gary; and grandson, Tyler. Cremation has taken place. Ducky’s remains will be buried at Waterside Cemetery with his family on August 1st.
