Obituary of Maureen Ann Harvey

HARVEY, Maureen A. Pictou It is with great sadness and much love that the family of Maureen (Brennan) Harvey announce her passing on July 1, 2024 at the age of 75. After a courageous battle with cancer, which she fought with great spirit and attitude, Maureen passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. She leaves to mourn with many loving and precious memories her husband of 52 years, Wayne; her daughter, Tanya (Philip); her son, Donald (Sadie) and her grandchildren, Paytan, Emma and Logan. She will be remembered and deeply missed by her sisters, Barbara, Janice and Marie (Brian) and her brothers, Pat (Winifred), Paul (Natalie) and Marcel (Sheryl). As well as her many nieces and nephews, brother and sister in-laws and large circle of friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Eva Brennan; her brother, James Brennan; niece, Jennifer Brennan; great-nephew, Noah Macdonald; brother in-law, Leroy Connolly; mother and father-in-law, Mary and Lewis Harvey and sister-in-law, Liz Chinnick. Maureen was born, along with her twin brother Pat, in Stephenville Crossing, Newfoundland on October 13, 1948. Maureen began her health career at the Cottage Hospital in Stephenville Crossing at 17 years of age. When the Cottage Hospital closed in 1966/1967 she then continued her career at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville. Health Care was a fitting career for someone as compassionate and kind hearted as Maureen. She worked as an EKG Technician until she retired at 55. She took on her duties with gentleness, compassion and always a smile. Her beautiful smile and respectful, caring demeanour always put her patients at ease. Maureen loved everyone but her greatest love was her family. She and Wayne moved to Nova Scotia in 2014 to be closer to her beloved children and grandchildren. Maureen or “Moe” loved being surrounded by family and friends. She loved entertaining or, as us Newfoundlanders’s would say, “to have a crowd around”. Newfoundland family or friends who were crossing the gulf were always welcomed at her door and Moe would always have a meal prepared, quite often a Shepherd’s Pie, awaiting their arrival. Maureen formed many friendships throughout her lifetime and always continued to maintain connections with her friends even after she left Newfoundland; a true testament to the kind and outgoing person that she was. In the ten years that she lived in Nova Scotia she made many dear friends and her home was always filled with laughter and love. Moe was a person that you couldn’t help but being drawn to. She thoroughly enjoyed her weekly Yoga sessions at Marge’s house with her girlfriends whom she lovingly named the "Yoga Chicks.” Maureen was also regularly visited by deer and hummingbirds. Her love of all things was extended to nature as well, they too were witness to her compassion and love. Maureen loved to celebrate Canada Day with her neighbours back on Hawthorne Street in Newfoundland and most recently on Norway Point Rd in Nova Scotia. It was very fitting that she left her home for the final time on July 1st surrounded by love and with the most amazing sunset. Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Farrell, VON Nursing and Home Care, and the wonderful team on the Chemotherapy Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital for their support and loving care during her illness.
