Obituary of Margaret Rose LeBlanc

LeBLANC, Margie Pictou Margaret "Margie" Rose (Downs) LeBlanc, of Pictou, passed away peacefully on May 1st, 2024 surrounded by love and those she held most dear. Born April 30, 1938 to the late Charlie and Henrietta (Blair) Downs, Margie was their second youngest child and the youngest of the four sisters. She spent her childhood days in Waterside; enjoying a hardworking but mischievous childhood with her sisters and younger brother. Growing up on the family farm, Margie had a lifelong love for plants and animals, especially cats. She worked at Hamilton’s Biscuit Factory and later, owned her own beauty parlor, an accomplishment of which she was very proud. She practiced her work well into old age, meticulously setting her hair every week. Margie would spend the last years of her career at Michelin, retiring in 1993. Margie was a skilled crafter and painter, she tackled knitting crocheting, pottery, clay, acrylic, oil, water colour and sketching with ease. Many homes in Pictou and beyond are fortunate to own a "Margie Original.” Margie’s zest in life came from those with which she surrounded herself. She couldn't help but beam when you brought up her family; you could feel her pride when talking about them. She spent sixty-one wonderful years with her husband, Lawrence "Moon", teasing and loving each other until his passing just four months earlier. To Margie, there was nothing her son, Andrew, couldn't do, a whiz at everything he touched and his wife, Myrna, was “the best daughter-in-law she could ever ask for.” Her time with her only grandchild, Anna, was something she especially treasured. They spent countless afternoons together as Anna grew up, going to Broidy Park, playing Polly Pockets and colouring. Margie was a social butterfly. She had a large circle of friends near and far but especially her self-proclaimed “Girls of the Hood.” She was known for celebrating; Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day and Easter, all had required parties for Anna and her friends growing up. If there wasn't an occasion to get the girls together, she'd create one. Margie will be remembered for her kind spirit, large heart and laugh. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Myrna; her pride and joy, grandchild, Anna (Casey); sister, Patsy McCara; brother, Will Downs; sister-in-law, Patsy (Butch) Fleury; special friend and niece, Dale Roddick; and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and cherished husband, Margie was predeceased by sisters, Joan Roddick and Dorothy MacIntosh; sister-in-law, Dianne Burns; brothers-in-law, Bill Roddick, Jack MacIntosh, Hector McCara and Wayne Burns; and infant son, Charles. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, on Sunday, May 5th from 6-8 PM. Funeral Service will be held in McLaren Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, May 6th at 2 PM with Pastor Pat Wilson officiating.
