Dear Bill and Family,
So sad to hear of your Mother's passing. She was a fun, thoughtful and generous neighbor. I was always able to count on sage advice from her. Loved our chats through the lilac hedges.
Jeanette's was also a positive force within Glace Bay and community.
Bless you all,
Barbara Stetter

Stuart and Jeanette were lifelong friends with our parents Marge and Vaughan Merchant. They played many a game of 45’s at the Cape Breton Royal Yacht Club and spent many summer vacations and sailing adventures together. After our father passed, every summer Marge would travel to Pictou for a two-week visit with the Sterns. We would drive her up and pick her up and each time we would sit with Stuart watching the Blue Jays in the summer air. Fond memories of good friends - who could ask for more in life!

To Bill and family. My sincere sympathy to you all. I so remember your dear Mom and her wonderful cooking as a kid when Gwen and I were school buddies and hung out at your house often. She was a friend of my Mom and all the IODE ladies in Glace Bay. Thinking of you all with love and prayers.

I am very sorry to hear about Jeanette. She was the last MacVicar in my father's generation and his first cousin (he was Doug McVicar, the son of Ronald MacVicar and Edith MacAulay). I met Jeanette at Edna MacVicar's house in the late 1990s, where she told me much about my grandfather's 9 brothers and sisters.

We always looked forward to visiting Pictou every few summers and were always made welcome by Jeanette and Stewart.
Jeanette would always call to thank me for birthday and Christmas cards and that always made my day!
A life well lived…

To son Bill and family, I want to express sincere condolences on the passing of your Mom. I had the pleasure of getting to know Jeanette later in life. I did her hair until she moved to New Glasgow. I lived a few houses from the Sterns in Glacé Bay. Gwennie and I were classmates from primary to Grade 12
Mrs Sterns and her husband were very kind to me when I was growing up
The last time we chatted was in 2005 while I was visiting Gwennie in the Victoria General during her battle with cancer
Very much a part of the Glacé Bay fabric

It was so nice to have Bill accompany his Mom to the Christmas Tea that honoured the resident of Braeshore who were over 80. She was such an inspiration to us all and a delight to have as a guest.
