ROCKEY, James A. ‘Jim’
Pictou / Piedmont
It is with great sadness that we share the peaceful passing of James ‘Jim’ Alexander Rockey, age 73, with his loving sisters by his side, on Saturday, November 4th, 2023 at the Maritime Oddfellows Nursing Home in Pictou. Born in Piedmont, NS to the late George and Isabel (MacLean) Rockey, Jim was the third eldest in a family of seven children. He is survived by sister, Mary (Paul), Sutherland's River; brothers, George, Riverton; Tom, Halifax; Bob (Barb) Telford; sisters, Novelle (Darryl), Pictou and Lynn (Bobby), Central Caribou; dear friend, Ken Malay, Halifax; as well as many relatives and friends. Until having to retire due to illness, Jim was a health care worker at Toronto Rehab Centre (Head Trauma Unit). He moved to Halifax in 2008, then to Pictou to be closer to family in 2016. Oddfellows was his home for the past 4 l/2 years where he readily made friends with staff and residents alike with his pleasant personality and love of gardening. He often said that if he had to be in a nursing home, Oddfellows was the best place to be in! There will be a private graveside service on Friday, November 10th at Telford Cemetery followed by prayers and a public celebration of life for friends and family from 2-3:30 p.m. in the community room of Oddfellows Nursing Home, Norway Point Road, Pictou. Family flowers only please. Donations in Jim's memory may be made to Oddfellows Recreation Department, Parkinson's Society or the local SPCA Building Fund. A special thanks to the wonderful staff and residents of Oddfellows for the care, kindness and compassion shown to Jim during his stay there.
