RANKIN, Elwood C.
Meadowville
It is with deepest sadness that we, the family of Elwood Cameron Rankin -76 of Meadowville, NS, announce his passing on Wednesday July 26, 2023 with loved ones by his side. Elwood was born and raised on Pictou Island, NS; he was a proud Islander. He was a son of Ernie & Janet Rankin; and also predeceased by his only brother, Robert and his very special Aunt, Lorraine. Elwood will be sadly missed by his teenage sweetheart, and then years later, loving wife of 18 years, Joan; his only son, Bobby and granddaughter, Kennedy; his stepchildren, Kim (Lawrence), Craig (Paula) and Kris (Nancy); his grandchildren, Kayla (Phyl), Julianna, Emaleigh, Graicen, Keenan & Daniel. Elwood was also tickled to see 2 great-grandsons come along, Ashton & Ethan. Elwood will also be sadly missed by many cousins and relatives, but most especially by his "brother-like" cousin, Billy. In his early years, Elwood worked at Michelin & Trenton Works, and then fished for 50 years, many of which were with his brother Robert. Together, they also farmed and gardened the family property on Pictou Island, and Elwood continued this for many years, being a favoured bush cutter for lots of neighbours, and teaching Daniel all he knew when he saw he had a good knack for it too. In his later years, Elwood enjoyed living in Meadowville and could always be found tinkering around his mainland home, teaching the grandkids while they helped him; he also loved getting out to meet and chat with people at various community events and dinners. There will be no visitation or funeral by request. A graveside service will be held on Saturday August 19th at 1:00 pm on Pictou Island, with a reception to follow at the Community Center. If anyone would like boat transportation, please contact Kris at 902-754-5573 to confirm your way over and back. A huge thank you to the Drs. and nurses in Tatamagouche, Truro and Halifax; and all those who called, visited and sent messages of well wishes throughout Elwood's battle. He was a warrior.
