O’BRIEN, Judith A.
New Glasgow
O’BRIEN, Judith Ann “Judi” (Bent) – 74, of New Glasgow. It is with great sadness that the family announce the death of their beloved sister on Saturday, July 15, 2023 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Judi was born in North Sydney and was the daughter of the late Jerry and Betty (Farrell) Bent. Judi worked in office administration for many prominent businesses in Halifax including CHNS Radio, O’Brien’s Produce Warehouse and in Management for Sperry Univac. The next stage of her life included marriage, working with her husband in their music store in New Glasgow and starting a family. A few years later they sold their business and moved to Yellowknife NWT for five years, where they both worked and really enjoyed the northern lifestyle. Upon their return to NS, they lived and worked in Sydney, NS before returning to Pictou County. Eventually she and her husband took different paths in life and Judi attended the RN Program of St. FX University where she graduated with honours at the age of 57. She immediately began nursing at Valley Regional Hospital in Kentville. Judi was an avid reader on a wide range of topics which allowed her to explore the world intellectually even though her physical exploring was limited. After retirement Judi resided in Linacy and New Glasgow, where she revived a passion for art, many of her pieces are hung proudly in our homes. She also gave back to her community by volunteering for CHAD Transit. Judi is survived by her daughter, Brigit and fondly remembered and always loved by her sisters, Beverley Simmons (Michael), Ley Cheverie (Wayne); brother, Harold “Hal” Bent (Ruth); and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews with whom she had a special and loving relationship. Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial ceremony will be held at a later date. Donations in Judi’s memory may be made to the Pictou West Food Bank on the corner of Front and Twinning Streets in Pictou.
