Obituary of Eugene Russell Cole

Eugene Russell Cole January 4, 1942 - May 22, 2023 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Eugene Russell Cole ‘Gene’, age 81, of Pictou, Nova Scotia. He passed peacefully on May 22, 2023 with his daughter, Angela; and granddaughter, Keirstan by his side. Born January 4, 1942 in East Chester, NS to Lillian (Rivers) and Harry Cole of Sackville, New Brunswick. Apart from his parents he was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Rowlena (Ward) Cole; and brother, Thomas Cole. Gene is survived by his children, Jennifer (Donald) Murphy of New Mills, NB and their children / grandchild Douglas Murphy (Kaitlyn Clark), grandson Ewan of Perth Andover NB, Jeremy Murphy (Alysha Bulman) of Halifax NS, Brady Murphy (Mylene Aube) of Black Point NB; and Angela (Duff) MacDonald of Braeshore NS and their children / grandchildren Keirstan (Jay) Romick, granddaughter Zoey of Hardwood Hill NS, Austin MacDonald of Braeshore NS, Danielle (Nelson) Fraser, granddaughters Kenley, Mila, and Ellie of Stellarton NS. Following his graduation from Sackville High School, Gene served in the 8th Canadian Hussars until joining the RCMP in 1961 where he served 34 years retiring as a Sergeant. He was a member of the Toastmasters Club and Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. While living in Pictou, Gene regarded his community highly, serving on the Board of Directors for LORDA Park, holding offices in his church, First Presbyterian, Pictou, and had an active roll in both Big Brothers and Scouts. Gene was an avid outdoorsman. He was a hunter and fisherman for many years, teaching first his girls, then his grandchildren all the tricks of the trade. In his retirement years Gene continued to enjoy family time making sure to be present in all their activities, finding great pleasure as of late spending time with his great granddaughter Zoey, his sweet Zoe Zoe. A heartfelt thank you is extended to his care givers at home and his special angels at the Maritime Odd Fellows Home. There will be a Celebration of Life and Graveside Service to be announced at a later date.
