Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CYR, J. Louis Pictou February 13, 1935 – December 26, 2022 It is with the heaviest of hearts that we inform you of the passing of Joseph Louis Cyr (son of the late Alphonse and Rose Cyr). Louie was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son and friend to many. In his passing he leaves behind his two daughters, Barbara Cyr-Brown (Gerry) and Faith Cyr; his grandchildren, Ryan Cyr (Sarah MacLaren), Jarred Brown, Kathryn McPhee (Cory Cox), Nicole McPhee (Nicola to puppa); his sisters, Doreen Slaunwhite (James), Irene MacDonald; sisters in-law, Lorraine Cyr and Gertie Cyr as well as his many nieces and nephews of whom he was very proud. Louie was predeceased by his brothers, Raymond, Arthur and Joseph Cyr. Louie was a truly kind person. He was caring, compassionate, empathetic and a beautiful soul from the inside out. Never a cruel word to say to or about anyone. He loved to laugh; loved to have a good stiff drink while he sat down relaxed, and listen to his favourite singer, Marty Robins. Louie was a proud member of the Stella Maris Parish from a very early age and took great comfort in his faith right up until his last breath. Louie was a very quiet, gentle soul who always tried to shy away from being the centre of attention and left this life in the same way. He waited for his family to gather around him so we could all have our moment to say a special good bye. His younger sisters whom he loved and adored, gave him comfort in saying his final prayers with him. He then waited for everyone to leave so he could peacefully and quietly leave this life the way he lived, without a spotlight. Louie spent his early years in the Coast Guard, travelling around to many different places and making lifelong friendships in the process. Louie then changed careers where he could be close to home and focus on being a father to his two daughters. He spent a large part of his life as an Electrician at the Pictou Shipyards, which he spoke of fondly until his final days. He retired at the age of 81 (he always said working at the shipyard was his only hobby). In Louie’s passing we have lost not just a great person but a piece of our hearts. We love you Dad and you will be greatly missed. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of life will be held Saturday February 4th from 1-3PM at the Stella Maris Hall. Donations in Louie’s memory may be made to the Pictou West Food Bank or a charity of choice.
