Obituary of Hilary Hughes

HUGHES, Hilary Pictou With a heavy heart, we announce the death of Hilary Hughes (76). She passed away on May 28, 2022 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Hilary was born in Ashton-under-Lyne (Corrie Street) to Joan and Harry Lomas on January 30, 1946. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years before going back to school and receiving a diploma in early childhood development. She worked at Pictou Children’s House for many years before babysitting the town's children within her own home. She was an active member of this community for many years, volunteering with the local Girl Guide troop, and at the St. James Sunday school. She will be remembered for her endless creativity, artistic abilities, quick wit, and flair for the dramatics she held until the very end. She is survived by her husband, Tudor (Taff) Hughes, of 54 years; children, Sharon and Sian (Abel); grandchildren, Zachary (Terri), Cadi, Reese and Dylan. She is also survived by siblings, Shelia, Susan, Eric and Linda; sister-in-law, Dilys, and a handful of nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Hilary was predeceased by brothers, Barry, Peter, and Mark also two children, Richard and Karen, who died in infancy. There will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place and her ashes will be returned to the U.K. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Unit at the Aberdeen Hospital or take the time to reach out to a loved one you haven’t spoken to in a while.
