Remembering well Joan as one of my grade 6 teachers at Dawson Elementary School in the 60's...not a lady to mess with at all as her presence was a, "no-nonense, do your work" kind of expectation. Thanks for teaching us rebellious, young whipper-snappers to grow up to be responsible citizens of society....rest in peace and God bless!!

I have fond memories of visits with Joan at Toney River. She was such an interesting lady and had such great stories to share. She’ll be missed by many. Sincere condolences to the family and all of those whose loves she touched.

Our deepest condolences to the Robertson family. Joan was a good friend and neighbour for many years. We had some good times together! I feel sad that I haven’t been able to see her over the last few years, due to health problems and of course, Covid. My thoughts and prayers are with you today as you say a final farewell to Joan.

I first met Joan when I was a 5 year old student at Sir William Dawson School in Pictou where Joan was the vice-principal. When our family moved to Lyon’s Brook, we became neighbours. She was always so good to pick up my Mom for meetings of the Eastern Star Lodge. As members of Lyon’s Brook United Church, we worked together for several years as members of the Board of Stewards. Joan was wonderful to work with and always had many good ideas for fundraising projects. Her support and faithful commitment to the work of our Church was truly a legacy! She will be missed.

Joan was an amazing person who so many stories and experiences to share. I very much enjoyed being one of her Toney River friends and had many chats, meals, drives and lots of interesting times with her and her sisters. She and her family were very close and I am sure that she leaves a large hole in their lives. My deepest sympathy to her sisters. Wish I could be with you for her service but know that I will always hold a special place in my heart for Joan.

Joan was so kind to loan us her van in 2009 when we did the sunrise run. She loved her scrabble too! A wonderful character and lovely soul. RIP Joan.
