Sending my condolences to Mary’s family. She was my grade 3 teacher and had a lasting impression on me. My own daughter is now is grade 3 and I had recently been reminiscing with her about my time in Mrs. Reid’s class. That year stands out to me as a favourite year from my childhood.
Mary was a much loved teacher by all of her students, our daughter being one of them. She was so fond of Mary that she wanted to visit her during the summer. When we inquired, Mary graciously invited her to indeed come along for a visit.
I read some comments by some of Mary’s former students on Facebook. She was dubbed ‘Speedy Reidy’ because she didn’t miss a trick and could quickly throw a piece of chalk or an eraser at misbehaving students. They spoke of her infectious smile, her cheery attitude, and her kindness. These are kids Mary taught nearly forty years ago and they still have such great memories of her. The children at Tatamagouche Elementary school loved and respected Mary.
To all of Mary’s family,
I met Mary at Teacher’sCollege. We boarded at Mrs Homes ‘ together. I have many happy memories of those long ago days . Mary took me home with her one weekend and I had my first taste of French toast! Later my husband and I visited Mary in River John and when we left we had a bag full of lobster!
Reading her obituary made me smile though my heart was sad .
May your many happy memories of such a wonderful lady bring you comfort.

I send my condolences to Mary’s family. Mary was my grade 5 teacher and later when I was finishing my time at Nova Scotia Teachers College my cooperating teacher. She encouraged me and was a fine example of the teacher I wanted to be. Thank you.
My condolences go out to Mary’s family at this time of great loss.
I had Mary as as a teacher. Her class was never dull. She had her own unique way of making sure that her students kept focused on their studies. She was a caring teacher who wanted to see us succeed.
Later I met her outside school and discovered that she was a lovely lady with a gentle heart.
She will be missed.
Dear Mary’s family
My family were associated with the school Mary came to in Australia. My husband Graeme, was School Council president and we picked Mary up from Alan McCoys mothers house to bring her back to Morwell, Victoria Australia. We lived160 km from Melbourne. That holiday we met her every day to take her somewhere and show her “the ropes”!! We instantly connected. My girls were 9 & 11. Our friends befriended Mary and took her places. We adored her. My heart aches with the news of Mary's passing. Mary was such a wise, elegant and caring person and like a second mother to me. I'll miss her beautiful smile and her birthday calls and cards. RIP Mary, we love you.
