BLENKHORNE, A. Faye. (Trouten)
Ontario/Pictou
BLENKHORNE, Arla Faye - 87, passed away on December 22, 2021 at Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. She was born in Brakenrig, Ontario on August 21, 1934 to the late Roy and Ann Trouten. Faye pursued her dream of becoming a nurse; attending nursing school at Western, then Dalhousie. During her 30+ year nursing career, she held a number of positions including Head of Operating Room Nurses at the Hospital For Sick Children in Toronto; Continuing Education, Nursing Division, Victoria General Hospital in Halifax; and Consultant at St Francis Xavier University School of Nursing, Continuing Care Program. Her belief that home care was the way of the future led to her devoted involvement with the Victorian Order of Nurses for which she was awarded the prestigious Lady Ishbel Aberdeen Award, the highest recognition given by VON Canada. Faye’s other great passion was her beloved family. She married Don Blenkhorne, in June 1982 and always said how lucky she was to inherit her family. Faye and Don quickly made a wonderful life for themselves in Halifax. After they retired, they moved to Muir Lan Farm, Pictou, where they built their dream home. They were passionate gardeners, entertainers, Rotarians and members of St Andrews Presbyterian Church. Faye was an incredible life force and there was nothing she wouldn’t try. Besides her family, she loved her wonderful community of friends. Faye’s special light shone brightly and she was loved by all who knew her. She was predeceased by Don (1993) and is survived by her devoted children, Ted (Petra), Sue, Barb (Karel), Bob. She was Grandma Faye to Dan (Candis), James (Amy), Brooke, Scott (Coreen), Rebecca, Ethan, William, Amanda; and GG to Trevor, Caleb, Hudson and Reuben. The whole family wishes to thank the staff of Palliative Care at Glen Haven Manor for their kind and loving care in her final days. Funeral Service will be held Friday, July 8th at 2PM in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Pictou. Burial will be in Haliburton Cemetery with reception to follow in the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or charity of your choice. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
