Obituary of Gerald Joseph Caissie

CAISSIE, Gerald J. Pictou CAISSIE, Gerald Joseph, of Pictou, NS, age 84, died peacefully on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at the Maritime Oddfellows Home with his wife of 55 years, Betty and his youngest son, Andrew at his side. He was born in Shediac, New Brunswick to Emile and Virginia (Cormier) Caissie. He was the last surviving child of Emile and Virginia, being predeceased by Roger, Albert, Helen, Eva-Mai, Geneva, Romeo, Louis, Leo, Loretta, Rita, Stella, Raymonde, Emile (Loretta), Joseph, Camille (Thelma), Ernest, and several siblings who did not survive infancy. He leaves behind his wife, Betty (Murray), their 3 children, Robert (Lucy Hill), Jennifer (Peter Stuart) and Andrew (Tanya Diamond), all of Bedford, NS. He was kind and jolly “Grampy” to six grandchildren, Emily, Rosalynd, Emma, Hannah, Nicholas, and Julia, and one great-grandchild, Jude. Gerald will be remembered as an active member of Stella Maris Parish, singing in the senior choir and soloist at many weddings and funerals. A meat cutter, first at Logan’s and then the Pictou IGA alongside his brothers Cam and Ernie, Gerald was a favorite of the town’s children who could always count on a piece of bologna when shopping with their mothers. An avid sports fan, in his younger years, Gerald could be found behind the plate, umpiring a ball game, or later in his rocking chair watching his beloved Blue Jays. He loved college football, curling, and of course, golf. Gerald and Betty were members of the Pictou Golf & Country Club and enjoyed many years on the course before it closed. His quiet retirement years were spent enjoying his family, especially time with Betty playing cards, drinking tea, and singing in his gazebo. Gerald was very well cared for by staff and friends at the Maritime Oddfellows Home and the family wishes to express their sincere gratitude. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 21st at 1PM at the Stella Maris Cemetery, Palmerston St., Pictou. The service recording will be available on the McLaren Funeral Home website.
