Obituary of Marie Annette Schell

SCHELL, Marie A. Pictou 1947-2021 Marie Annette (nee Dutchak) Schell passed away peacefully on Monday October 4, 2021, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital at the age of 74. Beloved wife and best friend of Gary Schell for 52 years, and much-loved mother of Trecia Schell, Pictou; Tonya (Douglas) Neal, Whitby, ON; and Nadine (Justin) McDonald, Riverview, NB; cherished grandmother of Jennille and Jesse Neal, Evelyn, Lillian, and Isabelle McDonald; loved daughter of Marguerite (Rancourt-Dutchak) Buller, and sister of Marguerite (Fred) Wesson, all of Kitchener, ON. Aunty Marie is much loved by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, great cousins, and extended family. She was predeceased by her father, Michael Dutchak. Marie loved life, loved to laugh – and brought light and happiness to any room she walked into. She was an avid gardener, knitter, quilter, and an amazing home cook. Marie was the owner/operator of La Mar Hair Salon in Kitchener, ON, and then later, Just for You Beauty Salon in Guelph, ON. She was a Brownie and Guide leader for many years, volunteer with the Pictou West Food Bank, and member of the Pictou Garden Club and the 55+ New Horizons Club. She loved playing her cards! Marie and Gary were volunteer members of the Seeds of Hope Community Garden. She will be very much missed by her family, and friends. Thank you to the staff at Aberdeen Hospital’s ER, 4th floor (Medical), and 5th floor (Palliative Care), the VON, and Dr. Bentley and staff with Gyne Oncology Clinic at the VG in Halifax – for their compassionate care. Cremation has taken place. A public mass will be held Friday at 3PM in the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou, with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Donations in Marie’s memory may be made to Kids First Foundation or a charity of choice.
