It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Michael Pierce of Pictou, NS (Formerly of Vernon, BC, Winnipeg and Thompson, MB, Belleville, ON and Miramichi, NB) on September 28, 2021. Mike was a devoted husband, father & grandfather who loved the outdoors and was active in whatever community he lived, in politics and volunteer organizations over the years. Mike was born in Carlisle, UK in 1938 and immigrated to Canada in 1958 where he joined the RCMP, completed basic training in Regina and was stationed in New Brunswick where he met Norma to whom he was happily married for nearly 60 years. Mike is survived by his wife, Norma; his sons, Robert and Stephen and their family’s; 4 grandchildren; sister, Margery Jackson and her husband Jim as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his father, Frederick; sister, Julie and mother, Kathleen. Mike loved the outdoors and worked multiple careers during his life after leaving the RCMP including community college educator, land administrator and in the justice department for the Province of Manitoba among others. He actively participated in politics as a school board trustee, ran for an MLA position in Thompson, Manitoba and was active in the scouting movement as a leader for many years. In his free time Mike enjoyed teaching downhill skiing, sailing, camping, fishing and generally enjoying the outdoors. He built a 16’ dinghy sailboat called Jufred Petrel named after his father and sister and later sailed a 30’ sailboat around Pictou which he lovingly refurbished. Rest in Peace Mike. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pictou VON or St. James Anglican Church, Pictou, PO Box 459 Pictou B0K 1H0. Visitation will be held 2-3PM Thursday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. A graveside ceremony will be performed at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Miramichi, NB. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
