Oh Dear Janice!
What a shock for us all. Please be assured of our deepest sympathy in your devastating loss and that of all the family. You two were so happy together, but he will be at peace now after such a difficult time these last few years.
The Obituary is so well put together, and we are touched that your pals in the ‘Auld Country’ get a mention! We treasure the happy times in our homes and pubs in Hastings we spent together.
With much love, speak again soon..
Jennifer
My dear Janice,
We were so desperately saddened to receive your beautifully written letter and the news of dear Alan's passing - it has come as a terrible shock to us. What a lovely Obituary, and a fitting reminder of the very special man that he was.
Jennifer and I have such good memories of our times together over recent years - especially our visits to Hastings - what lovely times they were! And of course, memories are now coming flooding back into my mind from more than 60 years ago, of our schooldays together.
You must have had an increasingly difficult time in recent weeks, and I expect you are emotionally drained right now - please be assured that you will be very much in our prayers as you battle through the coming days.
With much love, and sincerest condolences.
Jennifer and Stuart

My Dearest Friend Janice ,
My heart goes out to you at this time of profound sorrow. Words seem so inadequate right now...my head and my heart are filled with the many thoughts and lovely memories that bring a smile to my face , as well as the deep sadness I feel for the loss of Alan and the grief that you are experiencing now.
You have lost someone you loved deeply, your "life partner" , your friend, as well as your "Number 1 Fan" .
I have so many wonderful memories of times that Walter and I spent with you and Alan , which I will forever cherish in my heart .
But most vivid in my mind's eye is not only Alan's gentleness, his warmth or his quick wit and sense of humour , but the loving and sweet way he would look at you.
It was obvious to anyone who saw you together that you and Alan were a TEAM... and you shared so many great times
together - whether it was preparing a scrumptious meal and entertaining friends and family, travelling abroad or gardening - your interests and your enjoyment of life complemented each other . You travelled that road hand -in -hand together...
And finally, these past few years, you have journeyed with Alan through every minute of his descent into that void that is Alzheimer Disease...now it is time to say farewell & let him go...And although you will miss him forever, he is never more than a thought away... your time together and the memories you have made, will comfort you and sustain you through the days ahead.
Alan will be missed by all who knew him...
I want you to know I am here, with a shoulder to lean on when you need support, ears to listen when you want to talk or arms when you just need a hug...
So, sending you love from my heart to your heart, my "Forever Friend",
Linda

Dear Janice,Chris,Hilary,Treena and families,
I wanted to send my condolences to all of you for your loss. Alan was such a kind, quiet, thoughtful, and gentle soul. A true gentleman. He always had a kind smile with a twinkle in his eye.
I met Janice and Alan, as their dental hygienist, about 20 years ago. This relationship quickly turned into a lasting friendship. Janice and Alan shared such a loving relationship. I could feel their love and caring towards each other when in their presence. I always looked forward to their appointments. We always had a great chat and a few laughs. I am thankful for all of our visits over the years. You two were definitely one of my favorite couples!
Janice, you were able to give Alan the beautiful gift of caring for him at home these last few years, as his health declined. I know this was hard at times, but you would lovingly do it all again!
May you all find some peace and comfort in your precious memories, during this very difficult time.
As Janice and Hilary know, I am only a phone call away....
Sending my love and big hugs... xo
Be kind to yourselves and take good care.
Love, Cheryl

Dear Janice; I’m so sorry for your loss. I know Alan was the love of your life. He was a class act. I remember well your wedding day, many years ago, on Valentine’s Day. I also cherish good memories of staff parties at your cosy and welcoming home. I loved that library! Thinking about you at this time, and sharing in your grief. A big HUG for you. Know that I care.

Dear Janice (Mom)
The thing I liked most about Alan was that he was good for you. He had a lot of love and caring to give and he worked hard giving it, not only to you but those you cared about. Alan dedicated countless hours of his life to creating beautiful wooden carvings for each member of our family. Cars and ships for me, an Egyptian sun and a Brady dog for Melinda, orcas, frogs, and dragons for Gavin and Jacob. One only has to see and hold these precious works of art to appreciate the tender loving care that came together during their creation. The way Alan reached out to share his love was powerful and unique. In these difficult times be unafraid to remember Alan at his best, for he will always be with us.

Dear Janice, sharing in your sadness as you remember your dear, loving Alan. His excellent cooking skills were second to none and we sure enjoyed his delicious meals. I have so many fond memories of the four of us on your cottage deck laughing and reminiscing of earlier days. I am especially proud of the beautiful wood carving Alan did of our cottage. Alan was a kind and gentle soul and will be remembered with love.

Dear Janice,
We had the good fortune to meet Alan, after years of hearing about his many talents and culinary feats from Rhonda and Mike. You invited us into your beautiful home where we were so impressed by the fruits of Alan's talents and skills. It's a beautiful relationship that let's each explore and display their gifts and that makes a house a home.
You will be in our thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

Probably the thing I remember the most about Alan was his unwavering love and devotion to you Janice and you to him. You enjoyed each other’s company and shared much laughter together. Alan’s gentle and caring nature always made people feel at ease. He was a man of many talents cooking, sailing, carving and story telling of his many world travels. I remember whenever Alan came down to visit how much he loved oysters which are in abundance here. I am happy that he became part of our family. We know that this is a very difficult time for you Janice. You are in our hearts and prayers daily.

There is much about Alan to hold in our memory at our home in Brookside. Alan did the drawings for our home and made a beautiful wood carving of it few years later. This work of art is proudly displayed in our dining room.
Alan is that rare fellow who is at home in a boardroom, on a sailboat, in the workshop, in the garden, in the kitchen or on a construction site. Always a good conversationalist, he quickly put one at ease with his broad general knowledge and great sense of humour. In his charming way, he easily fit in with the Veniot family which was no small feat given the number of in laws and the different personalities!
Our Labrador Retriever Lily is an excellent judge of character and Alan topped her list of favourite visitors.
His friendship has been a treasured gift to us, his sunny smile always a welcome sight. Rest easy Alan. See you on the other side.

To my dear sister Janice :
I know that words are a poor substitute for the grief you are now feeling. Rhonda, Addie, John and myself feel Alan s loss very deeply. We grieve with you Janice. Its hard to sum up how we loved Alan over the many years we knew him. From the beginning, when he easily joined our family with his gentle manner. Over the years Alan proved time and again what it meant to be family. From taking John and I sailing in Pictou to you and Alan visiting us in BC. It was always with great anticipation that made those visits so special. I know Rhonda loved his visits because he used to take over our kitchen and do all the cooking! We gladly got out of the way and couldn t wait for supper! I still use many of his recipes today and I think of him while I cook. But somehow I could never equal him in the kitchen! Alans meals were a treat I will never forget. But those were a small part of his many talents. From his wood carvings, to his artwork. We are blessed to have the carvings he did for our family. We treasure these gifts as they keep our hearts warm with memories. But the best gift he gave us was his love and friendship which was real and genuine. This was the true measure of Alan. He always had a hug and a "Love ya" for us and we knew he meant it, as did we. We will miss you Alan but never will your memory dim. Rest easy old friend....Mike Veniot and Family

Alan's death, so unexpected, stunned us all. Janice and Alan would often be found on the waterfront of Pictou harbor, and we met there often. His smile would be the first sign of recognition , quickly followed by his warm greeting. He enjoyed the water in so many forms, and sailing was his passion. He was talented in so many way, but never boastful about them. He was quiet but could also be very entertaining in a group or on his own. RIP, Alan--you will not be forgotten.
Sincerely,
Avis
