I certainly enjoyed his friendship ,as he often brought his Dad & Mom to my office at the Pictou Medical Clinic & of course will always be greatful for his strong & loyal support during my MLA days for Pictou West. A good life , well lived !! I'm sure you will give him a good send-off at your private service. My thoughts & prayers are with you.

Joan, Jo-ann, Scott, Jill and Jonathan,
We are so deeply saddened by your loss, Russell was such a wonderful man with an amazing spirit... He carried himself with such class, grace and dignity, and there wasn't a problem the world could throw at him that he could not either solve or at the very least wrestle to a truce. Russell confronted all of his health woes of the past decade like a champion, as if it was all just another hill to conquer. And never a complaint, every day a great day. Watching him stroll the beach last summer was truly an inspiration for everyone along the shore.
I don't think I've met a man with stronger family values, he was so happy when surrounded by his gang---- you could see it ooozing form his pores in the hot Toney River sun. He was the best of neighbors, and a very good friend---my Dad will vouch for that.
Cherish the memories and take good care, we're thinking of you during this very sad and challenging time.
Sincere sympathies from Scott, Barb, Laura and Mark Tremaine

Dear Joan and family, we are so sorry to hear of Russell's passing. He always had a smile on his face when you would meet him. I loved hearing his bass voice behind me when I was in the choir. Our deepest sympathies go out to you all at this sad time.

I was one of the gang who travelled to Pictou County with Russell on the weekend while he was studying in Sydney. He was one of the nicest people I ever met; a true gentleman. I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that others are thinking of you during this sad time.

We are deeply saddened of the passing of Russell. He was a wonderful neighbor always so kind with his wonderful smile. He and Joan always welcomed our kids when they knocked on the door. We had the pleasure of having Russell and Joan over to celebrate the graduation of our oldest son this past summer. Much love and hugs to all of you at this time.

We are so sad to hear this news. Russell was one of the good guys. He did so much for us as chair of the Board when we lived in Bethel Manse - he could fix just about anything.
We sang with Russell in Bethel choir, and worked along side him at community events. I think I did the weddings of both daughters, and attended Scott's wedding - just missed Jonathan who was still in university when we moved.
He and Joan were a lovely couple and raised a lovely family.
There is a Russell-sized hole in Bethel Church and in Scotsburn
Prayers arising for Joan and the whole family
