Obituary of Carol Elizabeth Kovalske

On November 12, 2020, at the age of 71, Carol Elizabeth Kovalske got her wings and went to walk with the angels. She passed peacefully at home on after a 3 year battle with lung cancer. She fought with quiet courage, strength and faith; she faced every obstacle with determination and her positive light. Incredibly, she always focused on the bright side and found gratitude in everything. “Just be happy for every day, good or bad, I am,” was her message just over two weeks ago. She was born to Fred and Anna (MacKeil) MacKay of Braeshore just before her twin brother, Bill on March 23, 1949. She cherished her childhood memories with her siblings and often shared these stories. Family was more important than anything to Carol, both the family she was born into and the family she and Ken created. Anyone who knew her witnessed this each and every day. She was the most selfless wife and mother, always giving and loving wholeheartedly. Everything we know about love came from her. The quote, “When someone else’s happiness is your happiness, that is love” (Lana Del Ray) described Carol perfectly. Other than family, her greatest joy was the beach. Truly, it was her happy place and she treasured sharing that love with her precious granddaughters. The beach brought her peace and she always referred to it as “This is heaven.” She also took great joy in shopping, could shop anywhere and wanted to “shop ‘til she dropped” until the very end. Reading, gardening and knitting beautiful creations for her loved ones also filled her time. She had a very productive working career, first for the Government in Halifax, then City Hall in Toronto and next Town Hall in Barry’s Bay, Ontario. She was most proud of her 36 years at Michelin. She is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Ken; daughter, Susan (Jay) Dafoe; son, Paul (Kirsten Tucker); granddaughters, Laine and Brynn Dafoe and Vivian Kovalske; brothers, Peter (Carol) MacKay, Bill (Lynn) MacKay; brother-in-law, Barry Kovalskie; aunt, Marguerite MacKay; many cousins, nieces, nephews and beloved friends, especially Colleen Peers. She was predeceased by her parents and sister, Christine MacKay. We would like to thank all the medical professionals who cared for Carol during her treatment. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to Diabetes Canada. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.
