Bruce’s devotion to life and his firm belief in God enriched the lives of others. He will be fondly remembered for his generous heart, positive outlook and quick wit. Bruce always had time to answer a question or solve a problem no matter how big. Bruce was someone you could always count on. He was an employee of Ferguson Industries and later worked as the Recreational Director of the Edward Mortimer Nursing Home in Pictou. In his retirement Bruce immersed himself in his community, finding time to help others and continued to serve as a faithful member of the St James Anglican Church Pictou, for over 60 years. He was a member of the church choir and took on many other responsibilities to support his church community. Bruce had many interests. He enjoyed his days singing with the Men’s Choir, playing in the 78th Band in Stellarton and the Firemen’s Band Pictou, gardening, fishing, making crafts, and woodworking. Bruce served as a long-time member of the Pictou Volunteer Fire Department for over fifty years. In 1999, Bruce was the recipient of the Provincial Volunteer of the Year Award for exceptional Volunteer Service for the town of Pictou. Bruce loved his family, friends, and community. His greatest joy came from serving others. He lived a life as God’s servant. The family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank-you to Shiretown Nursing Staff and Dr. MacLaughlin for their care and commitment. We’d like to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Valley View Villa. Also, special thanks to Margie Dalton whose love and compassion reached far beyond the duties of a caregiver. A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to McLaren Funeral Service of Pictou. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Bruce’s honour may be made to St James Anglican Memorial Fund or a charity of your choice.
