Obituary of Isabel Jane Henderson

HENDERSON, Isabel J. Pictou HENDERSON, Isabel Jane, 90, of Ross St., Pictou, passed away peacefully on March 5th at the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Stewiacke, she was a daughter of the late Herman Ethelbert and Margaret Isabel (Kuhn) Campbell. She was a member of Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church in Pictou. A graduate of the Mount Allison University music program, she completed her studies at the Halifax Conservatory of Music, preparing her for a life-time of music education. She served as choir director and organist in United churches for over 36 years in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. She taught private lessons in piano from her mid-teens into her 60's. She also taught elementary school music at Hants North in Kennetcook. Isabel volunteered in the St. John Ambulance Brigade, was a group leader in church activities, and a long-time member of the UCW and latterly of the CWL. Isabel knitted prodigiously into her 91st year, clothing family, friends, and happy shoppers at fundraisers. She took up calligraphy in middle age, developing a unique writing style and designing and embellishing many certificates and documents. Isabel is survived by her sister, (Wendy) Margaret Hamilton Bierman, Nampa, Idaho; brother, Paul Graham Campbell, Halifax; sons, Br. Abraham, Orleans, Mass.; Roderick Ewen, Pictou, NS.; Br. John, Orleans, Mass.; grandson, Christopher (Leana); great-grandchildren, Sylvia and Kai, Lower Jemseg, NB.; and grandson, Matthew (Amanda), Fredericton, NB. She was predeceased by her husband, Rev. John Ewen Henderson; brother, John Herman Stainer Campbell, and her first-born son, Christopher John. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 12th, at 11 AM in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Pictou. Reception to follow in the Church Hall. Spring burial will be in the Parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, would be appreciated.
