Obituary of Janet Vivian Heighton
With great sadness we announce the passing of Janet “Jan” Heighton on June 26, 2019 in Halifax, NS. Born in Pictou on August 19, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Jane (Redpath) Heighton. Janet came to Halifax, obtained her nursing training at Grace Maternity Hospital and began her career as an Obstetrical nurse at the Annapolis General Hospital. Her generosity was much appreciated by her family and many friends. Her sense of humor and quick wit were her trademarks throughout her life. With her professional soprano voice, she fulfilled her passion for music, joining numerous choirs, both church and community, always available as a wedding soloist. The years as a member of the First Baptist Church, Halifax were very special to her. Her love of travel brought her to many locations beyond our borders, Europe, North Africa, Caribbean Islands, and the United States. She fully enjoyed her many summer cottage days on PEI. Surviving are brothers, Bruce (Eleanor), Vincent (Florence); sisters-in-law, Grace, Margaret; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by life-long friend and companion, Hughena Hubley and her family. She was predeceased by sisters, Irene, Nita, Hazel, Joyce; brother, Almour, Robert, Vernon, Lloyd, Gerald, Anderson and Gordon. By her request there will be no service or visitation. Cremation has taken place. A family gathering will occur at the Funeral Home prior to committal. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
