BATTIST, Dolina C. “Dolly”
Sundridge/Pictou
It is with sadness, the family of Dolina Catherine (Munroe) Battist announce her peaceful passing on June 8, 2019 at the age of 101, in the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, NS. She was born on May 21, 1918, the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Murray) Munroe and loved growing up in Black River. She is survived by her children, Gerald (Julie), Janette (Roland), Donnie (Donna); special daughters, Marjorie and Kathy Savory. She was proud of her grandchildren, Jennifer, Brandon, Rebecca, Ellen, Laura, Nadine and Vanessa; fifteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her brother, John; brother-in-law, Billy Forbes; and sister-in-law, Gladys Battist. She was predeceased by husband, Reg; sister, Mary; brother, Don; sister’s-in-law, Bertha, Josephine, Sadie, Lois; and brother’s-in-law, Bob, Henry and Stan. We love and honor her full life, her contributions to family, community and church. She was a proud member of the Lyons Brook United Church Ladies Guild but she loved being a teacher the most (in one room rural school houses). She loved genealogy carefully researching our family history and combined these interests to co-authoring the book “From Slates to Computers”. She also sewed and knit many items over the years and shared everything with family and friends. Her hands were never idle. Her determination to live also served her well through many incidents and accidents. The Family sincerely thanks the staff of the Shiretown Nursing Home, her Nfld. Ladies, Rev. Jim Webber-Cook, Jeannie, Amanda and neighbours who supported her in her home. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Donations in her memory may be made to the Lyons Brook United Church, West Branch Cemetery Fund or charity of your choice. Family flowers only. Visitation will be held at McLaren Funeral Home from 6-8 pm Thursday, from where a family service will take place 2 pm Friday with Rev. Mary-Beth Moriarity officiating. Interment to follow at West Branch Cemetery.
