Obituary of Joseph Ronald Vienneau
VIENNEAU, Joseph R.
Pictou
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our Dad, Joseph Ronald Vienneau, on February 10, 2019 in the Maritime Oddfellows Home, Pictou, with all of his 5 children by his side. He was born on May 11, 1932, in Cap Pele, New Brunswick, a son of the late Philip and Ida Mary (Landry) Vienneau. When he was 10 years old, he moved with his family to Pictou. He worked at various places over the years, among them Hamilton's Biscuit Factory, Modern Motors Garage, and Scott Paper, from where he retired after 25 years. Dad was also a dedicated member of the Pictou Fire Department, with over 40 years of active service. On July 18, 1955, he married our Mom, Shirley Anne Melanson. They had a very happy life together, raising five children; sadly Dad lost his wife in 1988. Dad was always busy; there wasn't anything that he couldn't build, repair, or renovate. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and very talented musically. As well as being able to play several instruments, he also built and restored guitars and fiddles. He passed his talent and love of music on to his children and grandchildren; our family events were always filled with music. Dad will be so missed by his children, Paula (Reg) MacCarthy, Lyons Brook; Michael (Lisa MacDonald), New Glasgow; Karen (Warren) Shih, Dartmouth; Stephen (Lori Hamilton), Pictou; and Mark (Michelle), Dartmouth; as well as 11 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He will also be missed by his siblings, Theresa Cormier, St. Peters; Cecilia Robinson, Ottawa; Azor (Donna), Lewis Lake; Annette (Warren) Chipman, Bridgewater; and Phyllis (Harvey) Bate, Pictou; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Shirley Anne (Melanson) Vienneau; brothers, Merville and Gerald; sister, Simonne Richard; and grandson, Jason Vienneau. The family would like to extend thanks to the staff at Ivey's Terrace for the wonderful care given to Dad while he was there; also thanks and so much appreciation to the staff at the Oddfellows Home, not only for the wonderful care given to Dad, but the amazing compassion and accommodation shown to Dad's family during his last few days ....we will remember it forever. There will be a Celebration of Life on Thursday, February 14th from 6 to 9 pm at the Pictou Fire Hall. The family will meet with visitors at 6 pm; at 7 pm there will be a eulogy, and songs and stories shared. Anyone is welcome to contribute a memory of Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Pictou Volunteer Fire Department, or a charity of your choice. www.mclarenfuneral.ca
